David Rohlfing

With over 10 years with Shaftel Delman, LLC, Dave focuses on helping clients resolve controversies related to probate, trust administration, and taxation. This practice includes representation of: trustees in actions by beneficiaries for removal, surcharge, and violation of duties; personal representatives and heirs in will contests; purported devisees of shares of Alaska Native Corporation stock; and fiduciaries in guardianship and conservatorship actions. Dave’s dispute resolution and litigation practice is informed by his background in estate planning, including drafting and implementing revocable trusts, special needs trusts, multigenerational legacy trusts, business agreements, and wills and trusts featuring estate and gift tax planning. Dave also advises clients regarding income tax controversy matters, including litigation in the U.S. Tax Court, IRS audits, and collections matters including refund claims, payment plans, and offers in compromise.
Dave is dedicated to providing high-quality, specialized services to folks from all walks of life. In litigation and dispute resolution matters, Dave works with clients to identify their needs, develop a roadmap to meet those needs, and work through the plan toward a beneficial resolution. While Dave looks for ways to reach negotiated solutions to controversies, he has extensive experience in formal litigation and recognizes sometimes it is the only available approach to achieve the clients needs.
Outside of the office, Dave works part-time with the non-profit Alaska Business Development Center Low-income Taxpayer Clinic to provide free tax controversy, education, and preparation services to rural and underserved areas throughout the state of Alaska. This has brought him to locations such as Hoonah, Good News Bay, Bethel, Fairbanks, Platinum, Kodiak, St. Mary’s, and Utqiagvik and given him the opportunity to serve taxpayers in communities throughout the state.
Dave has been a member of the board of directors of local arts non-profit Out North since 2018 and is an active participant in the organization’s community radio station KONR 106.1.
Dave grew up and went to school on the east coast and lived in Portland, Oregon prior to relocating to Alaska. He lives in downtown Anchorage with his girlfriend (who is also a member of the Anchorage legal community) and spends his free time enjoying all sorts of music (resulting in an ever-growing record collection), riding his bike, trying to finish crossword puzzles, cooking, gardening, or wandering around outside.
